XXVIII AESLA International Conference
Analysing data > Describing variation

Introduction

The main aim of this international conference is to reflect the multidisciplinary nature of most of the current research in Applied Linguistics. It aims to provide a floor of debate for researchers from different disciplines and subdisciplines whose main objective is the study of language in all its manifestations.

With the title “Analysing data > Describing variation” we intend to call the participants’ attention to the notion of variation (and all its potential manifestations in language), the different data analysis procedures and the various ways in which such procedures may help in the description of linguistic variation. Ideally, the Conference will constitute an active forum for the exchange of opinions and ideas, the formulation and the discussion of hypotheses. It is meant to trigger debate about new trends and lines of investigation and data analysis, focusing not only on the topics that define research in Applied Linguistics but also on the description of variation at different linguistic levels.
